Foam Roller to Release Fascial Restrictions

The fascial system has been getting allot of press these days. What exactly is this system and how do I affect it?

The fascial system is three-dimensional web of connective tissue. This connective tissue is continuous and surrounds every single muscle, nerve, bone tendon, and ligament down to the smallest cell in our body.
Named the information superhighway this system is the only system in the body that communicates with all others (cardiovascular, neurological, digestive, endocrine, and lymph to name a few). Through this communication, the fascia is providing constant information on the health of the body and the health of your internal system. Injury, overuse, surgeries, as well as emotional trauma, cause the fascia to have areas of restrictions. These restrictions create 2000psi of pressure on sensitive structures in the body causing pain.  Because these restrictions can not be diagnosed with a standard tests like MRI and Xray they often go unnoticed by the general health care professional and are a source of pain that often becomes chronic.

How can you help yourself?

Myofascial Release is a manual technique highly effective in releasing restrictions and is performed by a therapist trained in this particular method.

Self-treatment is a big part of care and the foam roller is the perfect answer.

Barbara Franzino, MAPT

In my never ending endeavor to understand the wisdom of the human body, movement and health I have developed a method of treatment that assists the body’s natural healing process. I have studied for over 20 years under many great teachers and my treatment method combines manual therapy, myofascial release and mindful movement to rid the body of pain and restore motion.
